J. O.’s Story

“My fiance is currently an inmate at Maine State Prison. He suffered a really bad sprain three months ago, and it has been an uphill battle for him to get the proper, timely care. He has experienced things like access to medical supplies, refusal of medical care, delay in seeing a specialist as recommended by doctors, lack of pain medicine despite not being able to properly rest from the pain for several nights at a time. I fear his condition is worsening or may be more serious than a simple sprain - the medical staff is doing everything in their power to mask a serious issue.

I have dealt with a couple of the administrative staff at the prison, including speaking with the warden's secretary for help on the matter.

His family and I have offered to pay out of pocket for an MRI which will definitely determine the severity of the injuries. We are ready to file a grievance with the prison's controller to address a few of our concerns. I wanted to reach out to you for advice or guidance on the matter.”
