M-PAC decries AG's ruling on   
Death of Victor Valdez
AUGUSTA -- Prisoner advocates denounced the findings released Thursday of the Maine Attorney General’s Office which concluded that alleged abuse by Maine State Prison guards was not responsible for the November 2009 death of Victor Valdez of Portland.
     David Bidler, a spokesman for the Maine Prisoner Advocacy Coalition (MPAC), said the statewide group would demand further investigation into the death of Valdez, who, according to many witness reports, was systematically abused by guards over a long period, and suffered from kidney disease that required dialysis treatments three days a week.
    Only after two months of public pressure by MPAC and other prisoner advocates did the state Attorney General’s Office agree to investigate the death. . . .

Robbie BothenFirst MPAC Coordinator Passes Away
We are sad to share the news that Robbie Bothen of Bar Harbor passed away on July 19, 2015.

Robbie was one of the founders and the first coordinator of MPAC. He was a primary organizer of the solitary confinement legislation. Long before MPAC, Robbie was involved in prisoner activism for several decades, through organizing, writing, protest and music.

Robbie was the editor/publisher of The Call -- MPAC's first newsletter to Maine prisoners. Issues of The Call are at MPAC's webpage: The Call

A service for Robbie will be held on Friday, July 31, 2015 at 7:00PM at the Church of Our Father in Hulls Cove. You are welcome to bring photographs, experiences, stories, and more about Robbie to share.
